An ECU Built to Survive the Field: Waterless Solar-Panel Cleaning Robots for Solabot
Designing a heat- and dust-resistant ECU for Solabot's waterless solar-cleaning robots — deployed across 100 units and 1.6 lakh litres of water saved in under nine months.
Client
Solabot Technologies designs solar-cleaning robots that remove dust from solar panels without water — addressing a real constraint for solar farms in arid regions, where conventional pressurized-water cleaning consumes significant water resources.
Problem Statement
Dust accumulation on solar panels reduces energy output, and traditional water-based cleaning isn’t sustainable at scale in water-scarce regions. Solabot’s waterless robots needed an ECU that could withstand heat, dust, and extended outdoor use, while supporting solar-powered operation and remote GSM-based monitoring — a different reliability bar than a lab prototype.
Objectives
- Develop a durable ECU to operate motors, transmit real-time data, and enable GSM-based control.
- Ensure solar-powered functionality for sustainable, off-grid operation.
- Help Solabot save meaningful water resources without compromising cleaning efficiency.
Solution
Techshlok’s team designed a high-performance ECU with:
- Circuitry for efficient motor control and solar charging.
- Firmware for real-time monitoring, reporting, and fault detection.
- A PCB engineered to withstand demanding environmental conditions — validated through both lab testing and on-site testing at solar farms.

Implementation
Techshlok engineers accompanied Solabot to field-test and optimize the ECU under real operating conditions, tuning for high temperatures, dust ingress, and continuous-duty endurance.
